"To contribute to the sustainable development through the provision of well trained human resources using knowledge based tools.".
"To educate and enlighten students and the community through research and imparting knowledge and diversified skills that are relevant to the development needs of the country.
Because of its vision and mission, UP has attracted highly qualified staff from the UK, USA, East Africa, Zimbabwe and Cameroon.
Over the next five years Umutara Polytechnic will obtain external validation of its programmes, develop its staff (supporting them to undertake Masters’ and Doctors’ programmes) and extend its campus (constructing: new buildings, student’s hostels, staff housing and a guest house).
The UP was founded in 2004 by the community of Umutara province, now the northern half of the Eastern Province of Rwanda. On 28 August 2008, UP was declared by the cabinet meeting chaired by H.E President of Republic of Rwanda as a public institution of higher learning.
Umutara is a famous cattle region, providing a local community service focus for our first bachelor degree programmes; Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Business, Accounting and ICT in 2006. We are now actively working to offer a range of Science and Technology programmes such as Building Construction, Building Services, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electrical Power and Distribution Engineering and Water Utility Engineering.
UP has enjoyed cordial working relations with its development partners, which it intends to sustain, not just for this project but for as long as it continues to function.
UP’s outreach community attachment programme distinguishes it from other high institutions of learning.
