The Departments of the Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture plans to offer a three year Higher National Diploma and five year degree programmes in Crop Production, Animal Production, Horticulture, Agroforestry and Soil and Water Resources Engineering. These will eventually become the five Constituent Departments of the Faculty of Agriculture.

However with the current staffing levels, it is impossible to offer all these options. The Faculty proposes to offer a general BSc in Agriculture which will evolve to encompass the above areas of specializations. This evolution of the degree programme towards specialization can only be possible with the concomitant recruitment of adequate staff with the requisite qualifications and experience. The Faculty hopes that this will happen as the university expands and grows. The Faculty will review the current programme in view of the above.

The Faculty promotes field visits and runs a 3 months farm attachments / internships course to enhance the practical skills of the students. The Faculty has a laboratory technician who is the custodian of the laboratories and equipment. Technicians support teaching by preparing practicals, operating and maintaining scientific equipment and managing laboratories (procurement of consumables and budgeting).

The following are the courses offered over the 5 years. Most of the Modules for these courses are available in the Faculty but some are still in preparation.read more...
