School of Business Studies
Mission:
The mission for the UP School of Business is to educate and enlighten its students and the community through research and imparting knowledge and diversified skills that are relevant to the business of Rwanda.

Strategic Objective:
To provide Specialized programmes that enhance students’ practical and theoretical managerial skills and their ability to think critically.
Objectives
i. To equip students with advanced skills with a view to increase manpower and capacity for national development.
ii. To promote research based on the disciplines offered at Umutara Polytechnic.
iii. To disseminate the results of research through teaching, seminars, conferences, public lectures, publications and other appropriate means.
iv. To engage in income-generating activities with a view to creating awareness of lucrative investment.
Educational purpose in providing the programme.
The School of Business offers full time and part time programs. The provider’s broad educational purpose in providing the programme was to help people who are working to acquire higher qualifications and managerial skills that will enable them to compete in the modern labour market.
It allows the candidates to acquire qualifications along the way so that they may get employment while studying continues.
Hence graduations will be held for students completing ordinary and Advanced Diplomas; then at the end of 4th year the award of an Honors degree.
Entry standards
Admission to B.Com. part-time programs is on the basis of the applicant’s grades and profile in the Final National Examinations
of Secondary Education A Level. Applicants with a minimum of 2.0 which is the cut-0ff points mentioned in the National Qualifications Framework Admission Policy are eligible to be admitted as privately-sponsored students, but otherwise are subject to the same standards and requirements as other students.
General Information:
UP School of Business offers full time and Part-time specialized programs. The provider’s broad educational purpose in establishing the School was to help people who are working to acquire higher qualifications and managerial skills that will enable them to compete in the modern labour market.
Curriculum Design, Content and Organisation
Normally, the duration for a degree programme is 4 years. However, given the fact that Part -time students learn for 4 hours a day, it takes them a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 6 years to complete the Degree Programme.
The UPU School of Business offers eight degree programs which include the following

• Bachelor of Microfinance, Banking and Insurance
• Bachelor of Science in Economics
• Bachelor of Supplies, Procure
-ment and Logistics Management
• Bachelor of Science
( Accounting & Fin)
• Bachelor of Science ( HRM)
• Bachelor of Science ( Marketing and international Business)
• Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment Teaching
-Teaching includes classroom lectures, seminars, and group presentations prepared by students on relevant course topics provided by the lecturer or chosen by students.
Course Assessment
-Each course is assessed in three parts namely; continuous assessment tests (CAT) and the final course exam.
a) The continuous assessment comprises of tests and assignments which are given during the progress of the course and constitute 40% of the total mark in the following manner:
i) CAT1= 15 %
ii) CAT2=15%
