Goals and objectives
Introduction:
Umutara Polytechnic research and evaluation centre was established in 2009. Since its creation, the Research centre has built a reputation for itself, attracting local and international scholars. A number of classic scholarly works in the Polytechnic have been published under the auspices of research and evaluation centre. Currently, the centre is an inter-disciplinary point for both academic and policy oriented research; putting special emphasis on Rwanda and other parts of the world. It is headed by a Director.
Philosophy
Discovering the nature of knowledge, depth of reality, and human expression calls for innovative ways of conceptualizing and experiences to uncover the interrelatedness of diverse phenomena from a wider holistic and changing perspective.
New research approaches and conceptual modes are needed to grasp the nature of human phenomena and understand the multicultural world.
A vital aspect in the educational arena is evaluation. Findings of evaluative studies will make a difference in the delivery of human services, classroom management, curriculum development and policy formulation.

Through research and evaluation, Umutara Polytechnic achieves academic excellence through its products... professionals who are research-oriented, responsive to societal needs and conditions and highly competitive locally and globally.
Mission
Effect a socially dynamic group of students, staff and teachers with competent research capabilities and self-sufficient to undergo the research process.
Capitalizing on these strengths, the students, staff and faculty will contribute to upgrading the quality of life, education and services of Umutara Polytechnic.
Goal
Implement a dynamic research program, which can benefit the students, staff and faculty.
Objectives-
To:
- Update the students, staff and faculty on research and evaluation through continuing education and training.
- Coordinate research and evaluation activities with the various colleges/departments.
- Develop interest and confidence among the students, staff and faculty in conducting experimental or non-experimental studies employing the qualitative or quantitative types of research.
- Improve the delivery of instruction, management and services through empirical investigation.
- Establish local, national and international linkages to highlight UP's research capabilities through publications/exchange materials and participation in research paper contests, conventions and conferences.
- Generate income to sustain and maintain Research and Evaluation Centre operations through external research assistance.
- Establish a well - equipped research laboratory where experimental research studies can be conducted.
