Introduction

During the inception of Umutara Polytechnic in 2006, it was envisaged that practical oriented programmes especially in the field of Science and Technology will be the core mission of the polytechnic. In 2009 the Polytechnic embarked on a rigorous planning process leading to the establishment of the faculty of Technology and Applied sciences.  The first group of Technology students were enrolled in January 2010 to the two departments of Civil engineering & Built environment and the department of Survey and Geomatic engineering.

The faculty of Technology and Applied Sciences is founded on a strong background of practical approach to learning as opposed to the scholastic approaches adopted by mainstream traditional Universities.

Innovation, creativity and efficiency are the driving wheels of every program in the faculty of Technology. The aim of this approach is to ensure that the polytechnic produces finely trained workers who are innovative, competent, entrepreneurial and development conscious. We strongly believe that the output of our finely trained technologist will be instrumental in driving the wheels of industrialization through innovation in the direction of vision 2020 and beyond. This premise is founded on the maxim that industrialization is largely technology driven.
